A shared culture

Today, I enjoyed being at the Maslenitsa celebrations in the community here in Omsk and it made me think about the similarity it has with the Makar Sakaranti celebrations we do in India.

Makar Sakaranti is celebrated around January 14 in India as the end of winter and beginning of Spring. Maslenitsa celebrates the similar idea in Russia but around February 18. Both events include burning a figure made of wood and cloth and eating a lot 😉

So happy Maslenitsa everyone (Mardi Gras at other places).
